Botox - Botulinum Toxin

Botox is the household name for botulinum toxin type A. This is a substance that is produced by a bacteria; it is then highly refined, purified and diluted and used in therapeutic doses. Another well known types of botulinum is Dysport and both these treatment are tried and tested in the use of wrinkle treatments.

Every time we laugh, smile or frown, wrinkles are created by the contractions of our delicate facial muscles. Over time, these ‘contractions, leave us with what we know as frown lines, crow’s feet and laughter lines. By blocking impulses from the nerves to our tiny facial muscles, temporarily relacing them so that they don’t contract, Botus softens the appearance of these lines. While the untreated muscles react in a normal way allowing facial expressions to be unaffected, the skin itself remains smooth and unwrinkled. The improvement can be surprisingly dramatic.

This excellent and inexpensive treatment achieves superb results and is ideal for the removal of:

  • Frown lines
  • Crows feel
  • Laughter lines
  • Forehead creases

How long does the treatment take?

The treatment will take about 10 minutes and very tiny needles are used to inject the medicine and only very small amounts are used. Any discomfort is usual minimal and lasts, if at all, for a very short time.

After the treatment, Dr. Anderson will usually ask you to come back in two weeks for a review and any further treatments or top-ups can be discussed at that stage.

How long will it last and what type of improvement can I expect?

The first time you have this treatment it will probably last for 3 to 6 months but with repeated treatments the effects last longer. The most common phrase to describe the effects of the treatment is that 'it gives a fresh faced look'.

Botulinum toxin is also an effective treatment for Hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating of the arm pits).

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are substances that are injected under the skin and are used to fill and smooth facial lines and wrinkles around the mouth, eyes, nose and forehead. It can also enhance the lips giving them a greater volume and a fuller appearance. In our Practice, Dr. Anderson uses Restylane or Hydra fill (Hyaluronic acid fillers) which is a substance that is found naturally in the skin.

This treatment can achieve excellent results on:

  • Deep lines around the mouth, eyes, nose and forehead
  • It can enhance the lips creating a natural fullness

How long does the treatment take?

The treatment takes approximately 30 minutes but this will depend entirely on how much treatment is required. A local anaesthetic may be used, especially on the sensitive area around the mouth, to minimise any discomfort. Results can be seen immediately.

How long does the treatment last?

The treatment lasts anytime between 6-12 months.

Sculptra

Sculptra is an enduring treatment approved by the FDA for restoration and/or correction of the signs of facial fat loss. Facial fat loss, or lipoatrophy, is the loss of fat beneath the skin, which can result in sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow eyes. Sculptra is a safe, synthetic, and biocompatible material that is injected below the surface of the skin in the area of the fat loss. It provides a gradual and significant increase in skin thickness, improving the appearance of folds and sunken areas.

How long will it last?

The full effects of Sculptra can last for up to 3 years.
