What are Dental Implants?

Implants are Titanium inserts that integrate with the bone and act as false roots. They can be used to support crowns, bridges and dentures. They have been in successful use for more than 30 years.

How can they help you?

• They can replace a lost tooth without having to damage or compromise the adjacent teeth. When crowns are fitted on implants, they act like normal teeth.
• If several teeth have been lost, implants are used to support bridges and the function and look of the teeth is then restored.
• When dentures are held in place by implants they do not slip around or drop down.

What is it like to have them inserted?

Placing implants is normally a minor surgical procedure. It is usually carried out under simple local anaesthesia. The placement is always painless but there can be some discomfort in the week following surgery.

After the implants have been inserted, you will be fitted with temporary crowns/bridges/dentures until the implants have healed and integrated. This will take from 3 to 6 months.

You will then be fitted with your final crown, bridge or denture.
