There are several types of ‘white fillings or restorations’ which can be used to restore teeth. Your Dentist will discuss the various options and costs with you.
Composite (white) fillings are carried out in one visit and have largely taken over from silver (amalgam) fillings. Used for both anterior (front) and posterior (back) teeth.
The material comes in many different shades and your dentist will choose a shade which matches your existing teeth.
Inlays are laboratory constructed and can be fabricated in gold, tooth coloured porcelain or tooth coloured composite resin. The choice of whether to use porcelain or composite resin is dependent on the clinical situation and condition of the tooth. All inlays require two visits, one visit to prepare the tooth and take impressions and a second visit to fit and cement or bond the inlay to the tooth.
Inlays are more expensive than composite fillings but they are very strong and durable.
